Citizen Systems Europe has launched its latest industrial specification desktop printer designed to provide simple, cost effective and high quality label printing in demanding applications.  The new energy efficient, eco-friendly CL-S400DT printer is ENERGY STAR® rated and can be used either with an external paper roll feed for labels, tags and continuous media, or with external fanfold media for producing larger or longer labels on thicker materials, making it particularly suitable for producing boarding passes, swing tags, festival and concert tickets.

Developed for fast, long life printing, the direct thermal CL-S400DT also offers energy efficient service and has earned ENERGY STAR® approval; a symbol that ensures savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features, and design.  The printer’s sleep and standby functions help save energy consumption during use, while capable of printing at speeds of up to six inches per second.  With tags and labels stacked conveniently behind the printer, Citizen’s all durable Hi-Lift™ metal mechanism, allows for ease of media loading.  Citizen’s proven Hi-Open™ mechanism opens vertically to minimise the footprint of the printer and features adjustable media sensors for tags with unusual cut-outs or black marks. The easy to read messages on the LCD control panel facilitate quick configuration and flash red if errors occur to alert the operator.

The CL-S400DT’s Cross-Emulation™ feature automatically detects the code being sent and switches the printer from Datamax to Zebra emulation or vice-versa, making it fully compatible and easy to incorporate into an existing application or network. Additionally, an integrated BASIC interpreter comes as standard, without the additional cost of a licence fee, allowing programs to be written and stored in the printer.  This makes it suitable for integration within specialist environments or for operation in stand-alone applications where connection to a PC is not needed.

The new Citizen CL-S400DT uses the same technology as the successful CL-S521 printer, but as well as paper roll printing capability, can accommodate extra size and thickness fanfold card paper media.  The printer can either use an external roll holder or fanfold stacked media, facilitating adjustable printing up to 118mm wide by 812mm long for media up to 0.25mm thick, and incorporates a tear bar for perforated tags or optional autocutter and peeler mechanism to improve operation.

With 16Mb of RAM and 4Mb of flash, there is plenty of space to store a range of logos, fonts and BASIC programs.  Serial and USB interfaces are supplied as standard, with the options to add Parallel, Ethernet and Wireless LAN options, to provide remote control, configuration and monitoring of each printer.
